NPF Legislature Party won’t attend PAC meeting: Imchen

DIMAPUR, MAY 8 (MExN): The Naga People’s Front (NPF) Legislature party has expressed its inability to attend the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting scheduled to be held on May 11, as the meeting was not convened by the appropriate authority.

This was stated in a press note from MLA Imkong L Imchen of the Naga People’s Front (NPF).

Nagaland State Chief Secretary, Temjen Toy had issued a circular dated April 30 informing that the PAC is convening a special meeting of all Tribal Hohos on May 11 at 10:00AM in the State Banquet Hall to discuss issues concerning the on-going peace talks and the women reservation policy for ULBs among others, with each Hoho to be represent by three office bearers/members.

Commissioner & Secretary, Nagaland Legislative Assembly Secretariat, N Benjamin Newmai had also issued a bulletin that the PAC meeting would be held with all legislators on May 9 at 11:00am at the State Banquet Hall to discuss the way-forward towards early settlement of the Naga political issue.

Imchen however reminded that “in the past, the ruling party used to officially communicate to the opposition for fixing such a meeting and the Speaker being neutral used to convene the meeting.”

In the last concluded Budget Session in March 2018, the Leader of the Opposition, TR Zeliang requested the Speaker of the Assembly to convene the meeting of the Legislator Forum for Naga Political issue. However, the meeting was not convened by the appropriate authority, the MLA said.

He therefore stated that the NPF Legislature Party would not attend the said meeting “without routing through the appropriate authority that is the Speaker.” He added that “moreover no formal intimation was communicated to the Leader of the opposition hitherto.”
