NPF MLA’s residence attacked in Imphal

Newmai News Network Imphal | August 29   A bomb explosion took place here at the private residence of a Naga People's Front (NPF) legislator in the wee hours of Monday, but there were no human causalities.

Police said some miscreants triggered the blast at the Deulahlane (Imphal) private residence of Naga People’s Front (NPF) legislator Samuel Risom around 1 am. The explosion has done some damage to the adjoining house and a car parked in the garage.   The police said they are investigating the incident. No group has claimed responsibility so far.   In 2014, militants exploded a hand grenade at the residential gate of legislator Samuel Risom representing Ukhrul constituency. One person had sustained injuries in the explosion.   Lawyer-turned politician, Samuel was not available for comments. NPF has four MLAs in the 60-member Manipur Assembly, but they resigned en masse at the height of the tribal protest against the three "anti tribal bills" passed by the Manipur state assembly in August last year.   Meanwhile, the Manipur unit of NPF said it strongly condemned the explosion at the legislator Samuel Risom’s residence and party office at Deulahlane today.   A statement released by party general secretary Honreikhui Kashung said, “Such lawlessness can no longer be tolerated.”   It ridiculed the "irresponsible remarks" of Congress MLA K Ranjit Singh, who is also the treasurer of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), "against NPF terming it as the frontal group and political wing of NSCN (IM)" during a public meeting on August 28.   “He (Ranjit) should know that NPF is a recognised political party in Manipur which is growing from strength to strength. The remarks has proved that the Congress government headed by Okram Ibobi Singh seems to be instigating miscreants to carry out such crimes at his will and creating hatred amongst the general public,” the NPF, Manipur unit statement accused.   It said the Congress government should own up responsibility and apologise to the public for the ‘barbaric act.’   NPF said the “cowardly act” committed by any group or individual needs to be condemned by all right thinking citizens, adding the party which has been fighting for the rights and justice for the people has no grudge with any individual or party and is ready to deliberate on any issue of the state rather than resorting to cowardly acts.   The party reminded that the Autonomous District Council (ADC) chairmen of Senapati, Ukhrul and Tamenglong districts have requested the government time and again that security protection be provided to them but the demand has remained neglected.   It said the Congress Autonomous District Council (ADC) chairmen and members are provided adequate security protection by the government which is another clear example that the Manipur government under Ibobi is “communal.”   It warned, “If any untoward incidents happen to NPF led District Council chairmen and members and the setup, the government shall be held responsible for it.”   NPF demands action from Manipur State govt Kohima, August 29 (MExN): Naga People’s Front (NPF) Central has condemned the attack on the residence of NPF MLA Samuel Risom and the party office in Imphal and called for immediate action from the Manipur State Government. In a condemnation note, NPF Press Bureau stated that such senseless acts of threat to the people should not be viewed complacently. It further appealed to the authority concerned to expedite immediate befitting action and provide impartial security. “This kind of lawless and excessive social menace must be curbed with utmost austerity by concerned authorities and stringent measures be affected to root out all such evil designed lawlessness, and thepeople be allowed to toil in peace,” NPF stated.
