NPF refutes Congress clarification on Oscar’s visit

KOHIMA, OCT 24 (MExN): The NPF has considered the opening statement of the NPCC’s clarification “a private one and had no connection whatsoever with the ongoing peace process” as irresponsible, absurd and arrogant.

According to a press release issued by R Paphino, Press Secretary of the NPF, the Party views the on-going “Peace process” and subsequent efforts towards finding tangible solution to the Indo-Naga political problem as supreme and important phases, both for the Nagas and all peace loving people the world over.

Union Minister Oscar Fernandes, incidentally heads the group of Ministers in the Naga peace negotiations and only recently led the Government of India delegation to a crucial round of talks in Bangkok.

The NPF asserted that the onus of commission and omission lies with the NPCC and its leaders too, for the reason that it is conventional for the ‘host’ to make preliminary briefings with the visiting dignitary about matters of public importance of which, for the Nagas, the political issue is top priority. Therefore, the casual statement of, ‘no connection’ or ‘nothing to do with the on-going peace process’, of the NPCC at such a crucial juncture, has been deemed irresponsible and misleading by the NPF.

In whatsoever manner the NPCC assert its position vis-à-vis Fernandes’ recent visit to Nagaland, the NPF asserted that certain ulterior agenda(s) lay beneath the NPCC’s carpet. Further, the party with majority seats in the legislative assembly appealed to the Naga people to judge the political dexterities of the Congress party and its leader as far as the Indo-Naga political issue is concerned.
