Putting to rest any speculation on reports of an impending fall of the present NPF-led DAN Ministry ahead of election next year, a senior NPF Minister today pointed out that the Nagaland Congress was facing a leadership crisis instead and that the NPF party under the leadership of Neiphiu Rio will come back to power with a comfortable majority. “The Chief Minister has done very well on the development front and we will make this as our main election issue”, informed Works & Housing Minister Tokheho Yepthomi, speaking to The Morung Express here today.

It may be mentioned here that during the last Assembly Election held in February 2003, the NPF had won 19 seats with the Congress emerging as the single largest party with 21 seats. The post-poll scenario however favoured the NPF, which was able to cobble together a majority with support of the BJP, JD (U), Independents and more crucially through defection in the Congress camp.

Meanwhile, Tokheho, who is here in the national capital on official duty disclosed that the Dimapur-Kohima National Highway 4 laning comes under Group B of the Special Accelerated Road Development Programme and work will begin only in 2008. He also said that if landowners along the road give trouble, alternate route through Nuiland will be considered for implementation.

“The district administration should not issue pattas along the Highway because there has to be a clear width of 75 feet on either side of the road from the centre of the road”, the Minister said. Other road project on the pipeline included Changtongya to Longleng, Merangkong to Mon; Chakhabama to Zunheboto; Pfutsero to Phek; Pfutsero to Zamai; Athibung to Khelma and Kohima to Peren all coming under Group B Special Accelerated Road Development Programme.

Tokheho is in Delhi to oversee construction of Nagaland House at Dwarka. He is also expected to stop by at Kolkata to inspect construction work of the nine storied Nagaland House building at an estimated cost of Rs 12 crores.
