NPF told to recall MP Wangyuh

DIMAPUR, MAY 29 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) while making startling disclosures of criminal charges against Nagaland’s lone Lok Sabha Member of Parliament Wangyuh Konyak has appealed to both the people of Nagaland and especially the Nagaland People’s Front (NPF) and its coalition partners “to recall the Lok Sabha MP before he is suspended or expelled from the Parliament owing to the various criminal charges against him and more so owing to the impending verdict of the CBI’s findings”.

“After all we did not send our representative to the Parliament to run from pillar to post seeking anticipatory bails in criminal charges. We did not send our representative to Delhi to embarrass us. We did not send our representative to the Parliament to cheat people, sell government plots at a premium, misuse his office or spend his time in the court rooms fighting one criminal case after the other”, stated a press communiqué issued by NPCC President Hokheto Sumi.

Giving an elaborate statement of reasons for demanding such a move, the NPCC pointed out that “it was an embarrassment to the people of Nagaland that the NPF MP to the Lok Sabha Wangyuh Konyak has been shuffling from one court to another seeking anticipatory bails in Delhi, Haryana and Jaipur on charges of cheating, misuse of office, misuse of colleague’s office etc with malafide intention”.

“His famous or infamous cheque bouncing scam came up for hearing at Patiala Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court where he was exempted with fine. This was the 26th hearing of the cheque bouncing case and the ACJM has reportedly expressed her displeasure that the MP is wasting the time of the court”, NPCC President stated while informing that the matter has been posted for July 24, 2007.

The NPCC in its statement quoted reliable sources as informing that “the MP is on bail in four criminal and cheating cases”. In November last year, a court of ACJM in Rewari, Haryana had framed charges against MP Konyak under the negotiable instrument act for dishonoring cheques worth Rs 10.66 lakhs, which bounced.

He availed bail after paying Rs 10,000 as Personal surety bond, the NPCC stated. “He has appeared atleast seven times before the court in Rewari, the sources also have pointed out. Although there are four cases against him and charges have been framed against him”, the NPCC statement went on.

“There are three cases against him in Patalia Court House, Delhi. One case against him in Rajasthan (in the anti-corruption department), one case with the Intelligence Bureau (IB) under the Ministry of Home Affairs and one in the CBI, Government of India. The NPCC stated that the IB had taken the up investigation after directions were issued by the President of India’s Secretariat on receipt of complaint lodged by one Amit Lamba, a former business partner of Mr Konyak. Although these cases have been widely publicized in the national print media especially in the north and the lone MP from Nagaland has become an embarrassment for the people of Nagaland”, the NPCC statement alleged.

The NPCC pointed out that whether good or bad and irrespective of political affiliation, any MP from Nagaland represents the whole State not just the party he belongs to. “Now considering the fact that the representative of the people has done more harm than good to the people; the criminal charges against him are more embarrassment than an asset; he has miserably failed to behave himself befitting that of a leader or representative of the people; the apex investigation agency CBI is in the process of framing charges against him; the office of the constitutional head of the country i.e the Rashtrapati Bhawan has directed the IB to investigate into the allegation made against him. The President’s office do not normally act so on frivolous allegations”, the NPCC stated.

The NPCC also appeals to all right thinking people of Nagaland to cut across party lines and help save the reputation and image of Nagas as honest, upright and trustworthy people. “Let us throw garbage to the dustbin not in the Parliament”.
