NPF welcomes govt’s move to halt absorption of Assistant Professors

KOHIMA, APRIL 22 (MExN): The Naga People’s Front (NPF) has welcomed the Nagaland Government’s move to place in abeyance the absorption of 147 contractual Assistant Professors, stating that the decision reflects responsiveness to concerns raised by various stakeholders.

In a press release issued by its Central Headquarters in Kohima, the NPF said the decision demonstrates attentiveness to calls for fairness and transparency in the recruitment process. It acknowledged the role played by student bodies, civil society organizations and others in voicing objections over the proposed absorption, citing the need for adherence to established norms.

“The NPF firmly upholds the principles of transparency, fairness, and meritocracy in public appointments,” the statement said, urging the government to engage in inclusive consultations moving forward.

At the same time, the NPF recognized the service of contractual faculty members across Nagaland’s higher education institutions. Their contributions, the party noted, have been instrumental in maintaining academic standards. It called for any future decisions on the matter to take into account both the merit of candidates and the broader implications for the academic ecosystem.
