The Central Youth Wing of Shürhozelie-led Naga People’s Front (NPF) today made a plea to President of India to immediately intervene into the present political crisis in the State and recall the Governor of Nagaland, and also take cognizance of the “biased actions of the Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.”
In a representation submitted to the President of India, NPF Youth Wing stated that “without any rhyme or reason”, the Governor of Nagaland PB Acharya dismissed the NPF led DAN Government on July 19, 2017 around 12:00 noon. Barely 3 hours after the dismissal, he invited TR Zeliang to form the Government on that day itself, the youth wing noted.
“It is indeed surprising that TR Zeliang was sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Nagaland at 3:00 PM. It is also shocking that TR Zeliang was sworn-in without a letter of support from the NPF party,” it stated.
TR Zeliang, the letter said, was expelled from the NPF on July 19, and therefore, the Governor should not have invited him to form the Government.
It further stated that in total defiance of the whip issued by the party, 36 NPF MLAs including the Speaker voted in favour of TR Zeliang on July 21. The NPF has moved disqualification petition in the Speaker's court against the 36 MLAs who had “willfully defied” the party whip, it was informed.
“Even after a lapse of 3 months, the Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly has not taken any action till date. On the other hand, instead of taking action as per the laid down provisions under the Constitution of India, the Speaker is justifying in making flimsy excuses which is amounting to subjugating the rule of law,” the representation stated.
The youth wing further said that the Speaker instead of taking up the case for disqualification of the 36 MLAs have resorted to summoning the 9 MLAs for disqualification “which is totally wrong in the eyes of the law.”
It alleged that all the above events were carried out in total violation of the Indian Constitution.
The youth wing meanwhile stated the NPF has been pro-active in bringing permanent peace and permanent solution; however, the Governor of Nagaland has “violated all the democratic practices, thereby, sending a message to the people of Nagaland that the Constitution of India does not apply to the State of Nagaland.”
The NPF Youth Wing opined that in the event of anymore disrespect to the Constitution of India and its legal system, the Governor of Nagaland as the constitutional head of the state, “will be held solely responsible, and not the Nagas.” In light of the above issues, the NPF Youth Wing has resorted to a peaceful sit-in protest in front of the Nagaland Civil Secretariat, it mentioned.
The representation was signed by NPF Central Youth Wing president, N. Vihoshe Swu and working president, Bendangtoshi.
