NPMHR, NMA decries violence in Nagaland

Dimapur, September 17 (MExN): Strongly decrying the unabated violence and killings in the state, the Naga Peoples’ Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) and the Naga Mothers Association (NMA) today declared that they do not condone any form of violence that denigrates human dignity and said that no form of violence is justified.

A press statement issued by the NMA President, Khesheli Chishi and the NPMHR Secretary General, N Venuh expressed pain at the upsurge in violence leading to deaths and the vicious continuation of hostilities.

“We do understand that we are going through trouble times and difficult phase in our march to an honourable future,” the statement noted, however, it strongly asserted that no human life is expandable and no form of violence is justified.

“We do not condone any form of violence that denigrates human dignity,” said the statement.  Strongly lamenting the continued violence in the state, the statement said that the Nagas are living under the shadow of factional war for over three decades which has bled every Naga family.

“Does this mean that we have degraded our National Freedom Struggle to mere self-annihilation objective? How much longer will it take us to realize that we are fighting someone else’s war?” the statement asked.

“Are we devoid of rational and humane approach in our dealings with situations and conflicts?” said that statement, “What cause is justified if a brother’s or sister’s blod is shed in its name?” The statement unequivocally condemned the ‘heinous crime’ committed upon one another by the fellow Naga brothers thus far.

The Naga Rights body and the Naga mothers also condemned the ‘gruesome murder’ of four NSCN (IM) cadres along with the wife of one cadre recently.  “Their services rendered in the march of our people shall be ever remembered,” said the statement.  The statement further called upon ever ‘Naga conscience’ to place human lives and dignity in their search for their rightful place.

“We, at peace with one another, and, with good will to our adversaries, will surely overcome al differences and will attain our long cherished goal,” the statement said.
