Dimapur, January 26 (MExN): The National People’s Party (NPP) Nagaland on January 26 has strongly condemned the recent assault and public humiliation of a Christian Pastor in Odisha, asserting that the incident has caused deep anguish and concern among citizens, particularly the Christian community across the country.
In a statement, the NPP maintained that it fully aligns itself with the strong condemnation expressed by NPP National leaders, including the communication addressed to the Chief Minister of Odisha.
At the same time, it reiterated that such incidents of violence and intimidation against religious leaders are unacceptable in a democratic and secular nation like India.
Likewise, the party asserted that targeting a Pastor or any religious leader on the basis of faith is a direct attack on the Constitution of India, which it termed, undermines the values of harmony, tolerance, and mutual respect that bind the nation together.
Furthermore, it has appealed to the Government of Odisha to ensure a fair, transparent, and time-bound investigation and to take strict legal action against all those responsible.
The party also urged the Central Government and concerned national authorities to closely monitor the matter and ensure the protection of freedom of religion, dignity, and personal liberty as guaranteed under the Constitution.
The party further called upon all sections of society to maintain peace and restraint, and not allow divisive forces to disturb communal harmony.
