Kohima, January 22 (MExN): The Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) today clarified that the Commission “has no authority to deviate from any laid down procedures of recruitment examination or declaration of results duly notified by the State Government and that it has been meticulously following all the norms and procedures set by the government.”
NPSC Secretary, Kevekha Kevin Zehol, NCS stated this in a rejoinder with regard to the news item that appeared in the local dailies on January 17, wherein, the All Sumi Students' Union (SKK) stated that a candidate ‘Levi Sumi’ allegedly not a Naga has been selected in the recently declared result of the NPSC and demanded the authority to nullify her result.
“While the Commission will always welcome complaints and suggestions from all concerned citizens, it is also expected that in the present case it would have been better had the All Sumi Students’ Union (SKK) discussed the issue with the Commission before going public in order not to be misled or be carried away with only one sided version of the matter,” the Secretary maintained.
The rejoinder stated that the Commission received an application from the candidate for the NCS & Allied Services Examination, 2018 enclosing her educational certificates from HSLC onward till her Master's Degree in (History & Archaeology) along with ST & Indigenous Inhabitant Certificates duly issued by the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Kiphire, Nagaland.
In all the certificates, the Commission found her father's name as ‘Hotoshe Sumi,’ a permanent resident of Yangzitong village, Kiphire, the rejoinder said.
The DC, Kiphire had on June 9, 2017 issued Indigenous Inhabitant Certificate (IIC) to the particular candidate certifying that “she and her family ordinarily reside in Yangzitong village of Kiphire and that she belongs to Sumi tribe of Kiphire District which is notified as one of the backward tribes of Nagaland.”
Having found all the pertinent documents to be genuine, the Commission selected her for the post of Secretariat Assistant (SA) against the backlog vacancy reserved for Sumi, Kiphire, added the rejoinder.
However, it added that the Commission received a complaint from the ‘Kiphire Tuensang District Sumi Students' Union’ stating that the candidate is not a bonafide indigenous citizen of Yangzitong village, where the Commission “immediately brought the matter to the notice of the State Government.”
Accordingly, the P&AR sought clarification from the DC, Kiphire in respect of the IIC where the DC on January 10 had forwarded to the Commissioner the verification report received from the GBs and Council of Yangzitong village A & B, “whereby the Village Council clarified that the candidate is a bonafide citizen of the village.”
The Commission thus, stated it was “uncalled-for” that an apex students organization such as SKK alleged that the Commission “defied all the norms and procedure set by the Government of Nagaland,” while adding it may amount to vilification of the Commission.
Meanwhile, the Commission has appealed to one and all “to come forward and discuss issues with the Commission in the interest of all concerned rather than going public through media.”
