NPSC selected lecturers yet to get appointment

KOHIMA, APRIL 20 (MExN): The aggrieved candidates who were selected for the post of Lecturers through NPSC, and whose appointment is being withheld due to a Guwahati High Court Stay Order said that they want a fixed date for hearing of the case.

The aggrieved candidates said that two years has lapsed but so far there is no hearing on the case, and their appointments are being withheld till date by the State Government. The Guwahati High Court had issued a stay order following a petition filed by contract lecturers, because of which the appointment of lecturers has been delayed to this date.

Two years back, the NPSC has selected 71 candidates to the post of lecturers, but only 47 of those selected have been given appointment order following the court interim order. However, the cases of 21 candidates are still pending in the court.

The aggrieved candidates speaking to The Morung Express said that they have submitted a memorandum to the State Governor recently, but so far there is no response from the Governor.

The Lecturers also pointed out that they had met the State Advocate General earlier on one or two occasions. “We do not know whether the Advocate General is aware of our memorandum”, said one candidate, adding that even the Advocate General has now become non-committal to the case on one pretext or the other.

Sources said that the concerned Minister was reported to have told the candidates that the date for the hearing has been fixed for this month. However, when the selected candidates met the Advocate General it turned out to be different.

When contacted, Higher and Technical Education Minister Dr Shürhozelie said he was helpless on the matter. “It depends on the judgment of the court,” he said. He said the selected candidates are aware of his position in the sense that he has no say in a court decision.

“The more we delay (on the issue), the more problems there will be for both sides,” he said and maintained that he was equally concerned for the matter to be resolved as immediately as possible.
