The website of the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) has reportedly been ‘hacked,’ multiple news outlets reported on Saturday.
An official from the Commission confirmed the incident to The Morung Express but declined to provide details, citing a lack of authorisation.
The Commission's office was closed due to the non-working Saturday, it was learnt.
Visitors to the NPSC website in the afternoon encountered a message stating, “The site can’t be reached.” By evening, the website displayed a 505 error with the message, “Server Is Down For Maintenance. Inconvenience Is Regretted.”
Prior to this, offensive messages had reportedly been posted on the site following the hack.
The hacking was brought to the Commission's attention by an aspirant, the Hornbill TV reported, adding that the Commission is currently investigating whether any data was compromised, and a police complaint has been filed.
This incident marks the second time the NPSC website has been hacked, it added.
A third-party website status checking portal indicated that the NPSC website has been down for over a week.
However, the Wayback Machine, a digital archive of the web, shows the most recent snapshot of the NPSC website taken on June 5 at 9:53 PM.
The latest document in the "Latest Updates (What's New)" section was published on June 4 at 11:48 AM.
The NPSC website hosts various resources including candidate registration, results, routines, syllabus, question banks, rules, and regulations.
Till the filing of the report, the NPSC, however, was yet to issue official statement regarding the matter.
