DIMAPUR, JUNE 10 (MExN): The National Peoples Youth Front (NPYF) Nagaland, the Youth Wing of NPP, while understanding and supporting the precautions/preventive measures being undertaken by the administration and police in Dimapur for the safety of all, however expressed concern at the “rampant lockdowns being imposed in Dimapur town as part of the SOP for the management of the inbound returnees.”
A press release from the NPYF said that the recent total lockdowns have been “directly/indirectly affecting the Dimapur citizens adversely, as was clearly evident from the sudden surge of traffic mayhem that occurred on June 9.”
“This was the direct result of the sudden 24 hours total lockdown in Dimapur town the previous day,” it claimed.
It further stated that the recent 24 hours sudden lockdown has directly/indirectly affected business communities at large, coinciding with the climatic conditions of Dimapur resulting in lots of perishable items going waste – especially due to final information from concerned authorities coming out only late at night prior to the day of lockdown.
The NPYF also pointed out that in some cases, two to three varying information is being issued by different authorities thus confusing the public.
It therefore suggested that the authorities initiate total lockdown 3-4 hours in advance from the train’s probable arrival time to Dimapur station. It also suggested that announcement be made by administrative vehicles that have been fitted with PA systems.
It further requested that instead of total shutdown imposed on all the business establishments and ban on movement of vehicles, the district administration “can think of something constructive like restricting movement of vehicles only in certain areas and making the entire perimeter of the Railway Station as out-of-bound area before the scheduled arrival of incoming trains.”
The NPFY meanwhile extended its full support to the authorities concerned and thanked the frontline workers, social organizations, NGOs, civic bodies, Churches, schools, colleges, concerned individuals, etc. for their tireless efforts in ensuring the safety of the people.
