NSACS launches OST Center in Chümoukedima

Dimapur, February 8 (MExN): The Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS) launched Satellite Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) Center at Rural Area Foundation’ Drop-in Center Chümoukedima on February 7.
A press release issued by M. Aka, M&E cum Accountant, Rural Area Foundation stated that the programme was launched with objectives to reduce HIV risk behaviors and harms associated with Injecting Drugs User (IDU) community.


State OST Master Trainer, Dr. Lawrence Lotha highlighted the benefits of OST. He stated that OST helps in substantially reducing illicit drug use, HIV risk behaviors, death from overdose and criminal activities, and financial and other stresses on drug users and their families.


Also speaking on the programme, Joint Director, TI, NSACS, Dr. Bernice Dzuvichu shared how OST transformed life of many Individuals and start leading respectful life. She also urged the IDU community to avail the services.


One OST client also shared his Testimony and the impact that the OST in his life. Representative from Naga Tribal Union Chumukedima and GB, Chümoukedima Town also spoke during the occasion. The programme was led by Alenuo Delie, Programme Manager, CAD Foundation, Purana Bazaar and Invocation was pronounced by Rev. Hopjoy Sharu, Pastor, Pochury Baptist Church, Chümoukedima. It concluded with vote of thanks delivered by Lapingtsu, Chief Functionary, Rural Area Foundation.
