NSCN (IM) awards penalty to cadres who assaulted student leader

Dimapur May 29 (MExN): The GPRN/NSCN (IM) has awarded penalty to its errant cadres who had assaulted Machio Odyuo, a student leader from the Dimapur Lotha Students Union, without any rhyme or reason on May 10. 

According to the DLSU, a meeting was held between the students union and the GPRN/NSCN (IM) on May 15 at the Lotha Hoho Ki, Dimapur where the unruly act of the cadres meted out to the students leaders was thoroughly deliberated. It informed that the accused cadres ‘2nd lieutenant’ Hokugha Assumi and ‘Sergeant Major’ Hotovi Zhimo (Dimapur Town Command) were demoted to a lower rank i.e., sergeant Major and Sergeant respectively for a period of one and half years as per the rules of the Naga Army act. The two were also withdrawn from the Dimapur Town Command. It was informed that the accused admitted their misdeed meted out to the student leader and undertook an agreement in front of the GSO-II (Admn) that they will not have any evil intention to have reprisals on the said victim in any manner in future. It was added that the GPRN/ NSCN (IM) has assured that adequate steps and measures will be adopted to prevent such harsh and excessive activities in the near future. 

In the light of the action taken, DLSU has expressed appreciation to the NSCN (IM) for what it stated was delivering justice and  assured its fullest support to the ongoing Indo-Naga peace process.
