DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 16 (MExN): Responding to a news report carried in the Indian Express on October 15, 2012 under the headline “Breakthrough: NSCN commits to constitution”, the NSCN (IM) has issued a rejoinder to the journalist Mr Pranab Dhal Samanta. “The NSCN is wondering how and where Mr.Pranab Dhal Samanta got the idea that the government of India has secured a written commitment from the NSCN that it will accept the Indian constitution”, an MIP note stated.
Stating that “if the Naga people under the Leadership of Isak-Muivah would like to accept the Indian constitution, they would have accepted the Shillong accord when it was signed”, the MIP note pointed out that there “would not have been political negotiations for such 15 long years”.
The MIP note stated that what Mr. Pranab Dhal Samanta said may be a surprise to the Government of India also, because the Government of India and the NSCN are negotiating seriously to arrive at an honorable settlement. “Freedom of the press does not mean freedom to meddle with the work of other people”.
The NSCN (IM) stated that “perhaps, in the final analysis, Mr.Pranab must be attempting to hijack the peace process to serve his personal interest” and that “nobody will be thankful to him for this kind of scheme” and “he should not make fool of himself”.
