Dimapur, December 5 (MExN): The NSCN (IM) has declared the kidnap and release of Jewel Varah by the ‘Khaplang group’ as “a reminder of the day when the Unification group indulged in abduction and kidnapping to sustain their so-called Unification process.”
A press release issued by MIP claimed that Jewel, who was abducted on Sunday, was released after an amount of 2 lakh rupees was paid. It informed that the initial demand amounted to 4 lakh rupees, which was later brought down to 3 lakh rupees, and then finally down to the amount delivered for the release. The MIP further pointed out that the rival group, compelled by the changed situation with the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) playing the role to bring reconciliation and unity, has “changed their ‘modus operandi’ in order to stay clean from the immorality of abduction and extortion of ransom money and that the discriminatory target of their abduction speaks everything of the exact motive of the K-group.”
