NSCN (IM) flays ‘reckless representation’ of eight Naga legislators of Manipur

Dimapur, August 16 (MExN): The NSCN (IM) today condemned in strongest terms the  action of the eight Naga MLAs of Manipur for what is termed as “reckless representation” to the Prime Minister of India along with 32 Meitei MLAs.

In what can be termed as treading on “treacherous ground,” the eight Naga MLAs have “proved themselves as confused lot of people not knowing who they are and who they represent in the Manipur Legislative Assembly,” stated the NSCN (IM) in a condemnation note issued by its MIP.

The Nagas of Manipur was caught off-guarded when these aforesaid legislators joined hands with other 32 Meitei MLAs to submit representation to the Prime Minister of India, it said.

However, the NSCN (IM) asserted that the representation has nothing to do with the political aspirations of the Naga people. The NSCN found their act shocking and weird as their representation to the Prime Minister is in totality against the voice of the Naga people demanding early implementation of Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015 to meet the political right and legitimate aspiration of Naga people, it added.

On August 13, the United Naga Council (UNC), the apex body representing 20 Naga tribes in the State of Manipur had also flayed the action and among others stated that the “Naga legislators who have appended their signatures in that representation do not carry the collective aspirations and sentiments of the Nagas and hence disowned their representation.”

As per new reports, the representation, among others, sought implementation of the National Register of Citizens, strengthening of existing Autonomous District Councils (ADCs), complete disarmament, and voice out against "separate administration" for the Kukis.
