DIMAPUR, JAN 21 (MExN): Following the deaths of two persons allegedly belonging to the NSCN (K) namely Sgt Maj Ponjai Konyak and Private Phoba Konyak at Kohima by the Kohima Town Command, NSCN (IM) on January 13 and the subsequent rebuttal by the Konyak Union and other NGOs claiming the two to be innocent civilians, the Council of Cabinet Kilonsers of the GPRN (NSCN-IM) convened a meeting on January 21 and resolved to endorse the case to the Keya (Defense) Ministry for thorough investigation, so that the facts could be unearthed.
The decision of the NSCN (IM) leadership comes in the immediate aftermath of a representation made to Isak Chishi Swu and Th Muivah by the Konyak Union (KU) wherein the KU had sought justification for what it termed as “the serial killing” of innocent people from the Konyak community.
“It is assured that if there had been any mistakes on the part of any Naga Army cadres, necessary action will be initiated upon the guilty without any reservations”, a statement issued by Vitoshe, Cabinet Secretary GPRN stated.
Following the decision to initiate a probe, the NSCN (IM) has requested people to bear with the GPRN during the judicial process “to deliver justice”.
The statement also appealed that people should not let “apprehensive elements of communalism take over our proper selves”. “We should conscientiously explore means and ways to erase all misunderstandings and collectively expedite approaches to resolve all differences and undertake reformative measures”, the Cabinet Secretary stated.
While maintaining that the NSCN (IM) solemnly stood for the integrity, unity and oneness of the Naga family, it also cautioned people not to succumb to “adverse elements out to incite divisionism within the Nagas but defeat its forces in the spirit of our brotherhood”.
“As the Yaruiwo had declared the ‘Reconciliation and forgiveness to one and all’, let us all bury our past in the same spirit and unitedly strive on ahead against all odds until our aspired goals are achieved”, it stated.
