NSCN (IM) reaffirms commitment to Naga’s right to self determination

Dimapur, March 20 (MExN): NSCN (IM) General Secretary and Chief Political Negotiator Th Muivah on Thursday reaffirmed commitment to securing the Naga people's right to self-determination.

In this address on the occasion of re-affirmation and declaration of NSCN/GPRN collective leadership, Muivah expressed gratitude to God for his guidance, referencing religious scripture to highlight his belief in divine sovereignty. He reflected on the historical leadership of figures such as Uncle Phizo and Imkongmeren, asserting that the mission of Nagalim— to protect the Naga people's right to decide their future— remains unchanged.

He also acknowledged the contributions of other prominent figures in the Naga independence movement, including Isak Chishi Swu and Khadao Yanthan, as well as military leaders like Thinoselie M Keyho and Capt Phungtha.

Muivah reiterated that Nagalim's sovereignty is non-negotiable. He acknowledged the support of various civil society groups, international allies, and neighboring countries in the movement for Naga independence. Muivah further emphasized that the Naga people would not relinquish their unique history, sovereignty, or rights, either through military action or negotiations.

Muivah also referenced past agreements, notably the Amsterdam Joint Communiqué of 2002 and the Framework Agreement of 2015, which he said had recognized the unique history and sovereignty of Nagalim. He indicated that these agreements would form the basis for any final political settlement with the Government of India. He stressed that key elements of the agreement, including the Naga national flag, constitution, and territorial integrity, must remain part of any resolution.

Reiterating his faith in the divine plan for Nagalim, Muivah expressed confidence that, in time, a satisfactory resolution would be reached. He urged the Naga people to maintain faith in the eventual fulfillment of their aspirations for independence.
