NSCN-IM responds to Sumi Hoho

Dimapur, June 30 (MExN): The NSCN-IM has clarified on its annulling the Zunheboto Ceasefire agreement with the NSCN-K, which was brokered by the Sumi Hoho. According to an MIP, GPRN release, the meeting for a ceasefire at Zunheboto was attended by unarmed GPRN representatives ‘adhering to the norms of the meeting and with good intentions as assured’ and invited by the Sumi Hoho. “Whereas the Khaplang representatives came against the directives of the Sumi Hoho with arms for unknown reasons. The very admittance of the Sumi Hoho that the Khaplang group came to the meeting in arms suggests in itself the violation of agreed terms” the MIP, GPRN release stated.

“How can one say that one is not felt threatened or intimidated when an enemy with arms is right across the table to negotiate a peace deal? If the cease-fire agreement were not signed for unacceptable terms, what would have been the reactions of hostile adversary with arms sitting right across the table?” the GPRN questioned. It stated that the NSCN-K engaged in firings “could be heard at the meeting place” and as such it could not be termed as a suitable atmosphere “in absence of mental intimidation upon the GPRN representatives amidst armed adversaries”. The GPRN further questioned if it was due to ‘communication gap’ that firings took place even after the (annulled) ceasefire agreement was signed, who is to be blamed “if people had been killed during its process”.

“Why did Sumi Hoho fail to justly uphold its respectable responsibility in preventing Khaplang representatives to attend the meeting armed abiding by the norms of the meeting? Why were the Khaplang cadres not instructed to cease-fire before hand if there existed good intentions as a meeting between the two sides was taking place?” the MIP further queried adding that under such conditions if one can call the atmosphere bereft of any “intimidated feelings or mental duress”.

Taking these into account the GPRN stated that the Sumi Hoho should admit “to facts and loopholes instead of deviating from the truth and upkeep its image as a respectable and justified body”. “The GPRN would appreciate the Sumi Hoho’s sensible gesture in approaching the issue by sitting across cordial tables to erase all misunderstandings and to work collectively to contribute attributive endeavors for our Naga nation” it was stated.
