NSCN (IM) Steering Committee Executive Member Vareingam Horam passes away

Dimapur, October 13 (MExN): Vareingam Horam, Executive Member of the Steering Committee, NSCN (IM) passed away on Wednesday morning after a prolonged illness at a private hospital in Dimapur. 

Hailing from Tusom CV village under the Wung Tangkhul Region (WTR), Horam served as the Kilonser for the NSCN (IM) Ministry of Information and Publicity, Home Secretary and Executive Member of the Steering Committee, among others. He had joined the NSCN in 1989.

Mourning his demise, the NSCN (IM) MIP stated that the organisation had lost a great, charming and courageous leader, and a role model with a big hearted commitment and dedication for the Naga nation. “Besides being an upright leader, he was noted for discharging his national duties with remarkable zeal and fidelity. He died young, but his legacy will continue through his deeds and sacrifices. His legacy will stand as an example to all of us to persist in our pursuit tirelessly,” the MIP stated.

Stating that the loss would be felt not just by his family but also the Naga nation, the MIP described late Horam as a “true son of the soil.” “He was a dynamic leader, loved and admired by many for his affable personality and insatiable passion for the Naga political movement. He was one of the NSCN leaders who not only led from the front without reproach but distinguished for the beauty of his service,” it added. 

It also conveyed condolences to late Horam’s wife and family members and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace. 

Yaruiwo Q Tuccu: NSCN (IM) Yaruiwo Q Tuccu remembered late Horam as a sincere, dedicated and dynamic national worker who shouldered different responsibilities. “His death is not only a loss to the family members but also a great loss to the Nagas in general, and the vacuum created by his demise shall be difficult to be filled,” Tuccu said in a condolence message. His sacrificial service rendered to the Naga nation shall always be remembered and cherished, he added.

Tuccu conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace. 

Convener, Steering Committee: Expressing shock and grief over Horam’s demise, Steering Committee Convener Ashiho Asoumai stated that late Horam was a stalwart national worker who never failed in his assigned duties.

“As we mourn his passing away, we are reminded of his resolute contributions over many decades to the resist for freedom. He served the nation whole heartedly without any reluctance [sic],” Asoumai stated in a condolence message. Remembering late Horam as a “man of principle who was unyielding in his commitment to the Naga people and for the cause of freedom of Nagalim,” he further stated that his stirring leadership would be remembered for all time and the history of Naga political movement will give him the place he deserves.

On behalf of the NSCN, Asoumai paid homage to the departed soul and conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

NMA: Conveying condolences to the family of late Horam, the Naga Mothers’ Association stated that he was a staunch and articulate Naga national leader who had been advocating for peace. “His passing away at this juncture of Naga peace process is irreparable,” the NMA added.

RNPC: Rengma Naga Peoples’ Council (RNPC) General Secretary Aga Rengma has mourned the demise of V Horam, Executive Member of the Steering Committee and former Kilonser for Ministry of Information and Publicity, NSCN (IM). Horam breathed his last at Zion Hospital Dimapur on Wednesday morning.

Remembering late Horam as an eloquent, inspirational figure and a tall leader who had rendered his service to the Naga people with great diligence in different capacities within the NSCN (IM) setup, the RNPC stated that “the Naga nation has lost a precious son of the soil leaving a void which will be hard to fill up. His worthy contributions to the Naga national and political cause will be fondly remembered by the Naga people.”

On behalf of the people of Rengma Hills of Assam, it conveyed condolences with the bereaved family, friends and relatives.
