NSCN (K) extends goodwill, support to peace initiative

DIMAPUR, JUNE 27 (MExN): While expressing high appreciation towards its peace initiatives undertaken, the NSCN (K) leadership have asked the Naga GBs Federation (NGF) and the Nagaland DBs Association (NDA) how firm and determined it was in their mission.

An NSCN press note conveyed goodwill and support to the deep concern of the members towards healing the Naga society “reeling under all ills imaginable” especially citing the fratricidal killings and bloodshed. However the leadership expressed some reservations against any move by any organization(s), on the basis of “bitter experiences of the past” and said that the group’s simplicity, good gestures and magnanimity had been interpreted as a sign of weakness by belligerent parties.

Saying that the NSCN (K) had all along been victims of its good intentions, the authorities asked to know the seriousness of their mission adding that they did not want to play blame games against each other in the future, “as we have come across in the past”.

The NSCN (K) however stated that notwithstanding the misgiving, the council had made a cursory study of the peace measures enunciated in the five resolutions adopted by the organization and said that it agreed with the same principles. The NSCN (K) continued that it was always looking forward for a peaceful society of the Nagas and Nagaland.

In a separate release, the Joint Forum of the NGBF and NDBA echoed similar sentiments of appreciation towards the NSCN (K) for accepting the five-point resolution of the forum. This was communicated after a second round of talks with the council on June 25, at Mon which was held under the theme, “To stop bloodshed and fratricidal killings amongst the Naga national workers”. The forum stated that the response of the NSCN (K) to the aspiration and desires of the Naga people had opened a chapter in the history of peace-process in the state of Nagaland. The joint forum expressed hope that the other two groups, NSCN (IM) and FGN, would also come forward and accept the five-point resolution during the second round of talk scheduled on the 26th, 29-30th of this month.

While requesting the warring factions to shun violence from now on and maintain peace, the forum stated that it would take important follow-up actions after completion of the second round of talks with all the factions. The joint forum has also appealed to all the churches, irrespective of denominations to pray and fast on the coming Sunday, July 1, next with a special program under the theme, “To stop bloodshed and fratricidal killings amongst the national workers.”
