NSCN K (Niki) asks DGAR to clarify on statement

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 6 (MExN): The NSCN K (Niki) today said that it is “astounded” by the recent statement made by the Director General of the Assam Rifles (DGAR), Lieutenant General Pradeep Chandran Nair during an interview with The Week magazine.

A press release from the MIP of the NSCN K (Niki) took exception to the DGAR’s statement that “Niki Sumi surrendered with his people,” and asked for a clarification as to “why he had used the word ‘surrender’ which is completely false and misleading.”

“How can a man of his caliber and stature who holds the highest position use such a misguiding statement when he is aware that the GoI and NSCN/GPRN officially revived the ceasefire between the two on September 8, 2021,” it questioned.

“It may be said he is intentionally trying to cause chaos, confusion and misunderstanding among the people for no government in the world would ever sign a ceasefire with a surrendered group,” the press release stated.

It reminded that the Government of India is “well aware of how and why NSCN/GPRN came to revive the ceasefire and it is the universal truth that the NSCN/GPRN, heeding to the call and desire of the people for peace, had come out to join the peace process with the Centre and restore the ceasefire agreement that it had abrogated in 2015 and, subsequently revived the ceasefire on 8th September, 2021 for larger interest of peace in the land.”

It said that at no point of time the NSCN/GPRN had surrendered itself from fighting for the cause of Naga people's rights and “shall not even in the days to come.”

While condemning the statement as “malafide and unscrupulous,” the NSCN K (Niki) asked the DGAR to withdraw his statement “otherwise, he shall be held solely responsible for any unpleasant consequences arising because of his baseless statement.”

It further asked the DGAR to “prove if there was any document or agreement on which the NSCN/GPRN has signed or agreed for surrender.”

“The Government of India and the Ministry of Home Affairs must take note of the contradicting statements made by a high ranking military official. Does the NSCN/GPRN have to sign a separate ceasefire agreement with Indian security forces?” it further questioned.
