DIMAPUR, JANUARY 29 (MExN): The NSCN/GPRN (K) today decided to join the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) Working Committee (WC) following a meeting held by the committee with the former’s President, Lieutenant General (Retd), Khango Konyak and General Secretary, Colonel (Retd) lsak Sumi on January 29.
This was informed in a joint statement from the NNPGs WC Convener, N Kitovi Zhimomi; Co-conveners, Zhopra Vero, Y Wangtin Naga, Hozheto Chophy, Kiumukam Yimchunger, Toshi Walling; and NSCN/GPRN (K) President, Lieutenant General (Retd) Khango Konyak.
The statement informed that the decision was taken as per the “appeal and prayer of the Naga people,” after thorough deliberation, with the NSCN/GPRN (K) joining the NNPGs WC while “maintaining its identity and as partner in the ongoing political negotiations with the GoI.”
“The wisdom and maturity exhibited by NSCN/GPRN (K) leadership was appreciated by the house,” the statement added.
It was further resolved that that “all defectors, both civil and military workers within the NNPGs, should abide by the resolutions dated May 13, 2017; August 8, 2017 and September 19, 2017.” “These resolutions were unanimously reaffirmed by the Naga leaders present,” it added.
The meeting also resolved to offer ten days i.e. till February 8, 2019 “to all defectors to return to their parent organisation, failing which, the NNPGs WC shall jointly decide on the course of action.”
It further agreed that “defection among the Naga political groups has ever been a thorn in the flesh causing irreparable damage to the Naga cause and therefore it is mandatory for all the signatories to enforce the Anti defection Agreement.”
The meeting and the resolutions were witnessed by Nagaland Tribes Council Mediation Committee Convener, Yesonu Veyie; Nagaland GBs Federation President, Shahlem Konyak and General Secretary, Shikuto Zalipu.
The NSCN/GPRN (K) also issued a separate press note informing its decision to join the NNPGs WC and informed that it would not “entertain defectors in any manner and shall uphold the NNPGs anti defection in letter and spirit so as to protect the sanctity of Naga historical and political rights.”
