NSCU conducts training on capacity building of PACS

The Nagaland State Cooperative Union (NSCU) today conducted one day training on capacity building of chairman and secretary of the Primary Agriculture Credit Societies (PACS) at Red Cross Building, Kohima.

Addressing the gathering as the special guest, NSCU President Kedoutsolhi Wetsah said that this programme was the first of its kind in Nagaland organized by NSCU, Dimapur.

NSCU, which was started in the year 1967 is an apex level non trading cooperative education, training and organization representing the entire Nagaland cooperative movement under the sponsorship of the state cooperation.

He said that the NSCU was established to impart new basic cooperative education, training and information to members and Board of Directors.

It has been universally recognized that the success and growth of cooperative depends on continuous education, he said adding cooperative education, training and information become pre-requisite base for the success and growth of cooperatives.

“In view of changing economic environment, constant review of cooperative education and training is a must to make all sectors of cooperatives more efficient and effective to compete with private sectors in a befitting manner,” Wetsah said.

The objective of NSCU is to promote and develop the cooperative movement in the state, to educate guide and assist the people in their efforts to build up and expand the cooperative sectors and to serve as an exponent of cooperative opinion in accordance with basic cooperative principles, to impart cooperative education, training and information to the cooperative and to act as cooperating agency on all matters- pertaining to cooperative education, training and information as per the 5th principle of cooperation, to develop inter cooperative relationship and help in coordinate functioning of the cooperative movement in various sectors, to convene and conduct state level seminars, conferences, exhibitions. publishing of literatures, periodical, pamphlets etc on cooperation and to organize and impart continuous education training and information to members and also to upgrade their skills and abilities to perform their duties and responsibilities in a befitting manner which will help in uplifting the social economic condition and create regular employment and masses to the state from grass root level to state level.

A Separate Ministry of cooperation was established by the Central Government in July 2021, he said adding that cooperative movement in India with more than 8.5 lakh cooperative societies involved in various socio economic activities.

The PACS Development Cell (PDC) was set up in the Bank under the sponsorship of NABARD in the year 2021.

In order to strengthen the PACS and their functioning in the state, the bank has carried out various activities under the PACS Development Cell, he said.

He said that under centrally sponsored scheme for computerization of 63,000 PACS in the country, NABARD as implementing agency and the bank and cooperation department, Govt. of Nagaland as stakeholders has successfully computerized 33 PACS societies in the state in the first phase.

The second phase which consists of 198 selected PACS is under the process of evaluation, he said.

Meanwhile, Wetsah challenged all the selected societies of PACS both from Kohima and Tseminyu District to play an active and vital role in socio economic development in the rural area.

The speakers of the programme included Bharati Chhinal, DRCS, RCS office Kohima, Imnanukshi, CEO, NSCU, Dimapur and Imtimendang, SRCS, RCS Office Kohima.

They spoke on “Management of the cooperation societies,” “Book keeping on of cooperative societies” and “Leadership development in cooperatives” respectively.

Earlier, the inaugural programme was chaired by NSCU CEO Imnanukshi while vote of thanks was proposed by NSCU secretary Mohokiya Apon.
