Zunheboto, May 3 (DIPR): A one day legal awareness on human trafficking organized by Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) in association with National Commission for Women (NCW), New Delhi was held at Town Hall, Zunheboto on May 3.
Speaking at the seminar, Chairperson, Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW), Dr. Temsula Ao said, human trafficking is a global menace that affects not only the poor nations but also more affluent nations too. Lamenting that bulk of trafficked population comprised of those who are absorbed as labourers, slaves and workers in various mines factories, industries and brothels, she said, the issues involved in trafficking are many; legal, moral, political and financial.
Exhorting that human trafficking may sound like something which is happening only in other states because not much is heard of such cases in our state, Dr. Temsula said, the menace of trafficking of Naga girls is on rise which is threatening our youths insidiously and silently. Keeping this in mind, the NSCW is conducting awareness programme all over the state to warn the youths not to be lured by extravagant promises of touts and traffickers for better life outside the state and encourages Nagas to be always alert and beware of the ulterior motives.
While pledging to participate in global fight against human trafficking, “The NSCW works to create awareness in our own societies and pledge to fight against human trafficking so that as envisaged by world bodies, we will also be able to eliminate trafficking from our societies by 2020,” stated Dr. Temsula.
