Nagaland State Commission for Women conducted 2nd district tour to Noklak, Shamator, Tuensang, Mokokchung and Zunheboto districts from February 19- 24.

Zunheboto, March 3 (MExN): Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) conducted 2nd district tour to Noklak, Shamator, Tuensang, Mokokchung and Zunheboto districts from February 19- 24. The tour was led by its Chairperson W Nginyeih Konyak along with members Kekhrienuo Meyase, and Akokla Longchar, stated a press release received here.
During the discussion with district apex tribal women organisations on various issues related to women, the Chairperson emphasised the need to create more awareness on issues such as cybercrime, domestic violence and providing a safe medium for afflicted women.
The Commission encouraged apex women organization from the districts to continue to play an active role in collaboration with the District Administration, Police and other line departments to promote and protect women welfare and empowerment.
During district hospitals and district jails visit, the team interacted with medical officers, nurses and toured hospital wards, and met jail officials and female inmates. The team also visited Women Police Stations and Sakhi-One Stop Centres at Tuensang, Mokokchung and Zunheboto respectively.
Various challenges faced by the institutions with regard to women welfare and protection of their rights were discussed and the need of various mechanisms to address the issue of women affected by violence and substance abuse.
The team interacted with District Welfare Officers, who are also the designated District Protection Officer for Domestic Violence and examined socio-economic conditions and welfare programmes available to women through Government schemes.
The Commission paid courtesy visit to District Administrations and Superintendents of Police. The team brought up importance of setting up Internal Complaint Committee under POSH Act 2013.
The Chairperson reiterated the need to strengthen rehabilitation services and emphasised importance of the role of District Administration, Police, and their collective efforts to tackle the menace of substance abuse and safety and security of women in the district.
