Kohima, July 28 (MExN): The Nagaland government has directed all NGOs, church organisations, civil society groups and well-wishers to route relief assistance for flood-affected areas through the respective District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) to ensure coordinated and equitable distribution.
In a circular issued on Tuesday, the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) under the Home Department said the directive was necessitated by the extensive damage caused by heavy rainfall, landslides and flash floods across the state.
It said all relief and rescue operations at the district level would be coordinated only through the respective DDMAs.
Individuals and organisations intending to provide relief in cash or kind have been asked to contact the office of the Chairman of the concerned DDMA and route their assistance through the district authority.
The government said the move is aimed at avoiding duplication of relief efforts and ensuring that assistance reaches all affected families and villages in a fair and accountable manner.
The NSDMA has also circulated contact details of Additional Deputy Commissioners and Chief Executive Officers of the DDMAs in all 17 districts to facilitate coordination.
