NSDMA conducts Community First Responder training

Kohima, September 2 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Kohima conducted Community First Responder (CFR) training on Disaster Management with the Kohima Village Youth Organisation from August 31 to September 2.

The participants were trained on various topics like Basic Life Support, Fracture and splinting, bandaging, pre-hospital treatments, TRAIGE, improvised rescue techniques, uses of rope in rescue operation etc. The QRT of KVYO was also similarly trained a few years back and this is the second training imparted to the KVYO by the NSDMA.

Resource persons included personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (HG&CD), F&ES, Dr. Chibenthung Kithan, MO Wokha and Mulai Lamnai Dist. Comdt. HG&CD. The three day training was held in the Panchayat hall of Kohima Village. Forty youth (ten from each Khel) along with officials of the KVYO were trained. The DC Kohima and OSD NSDMA gave exhortations on the first and last day respectively.

The Media wing NSDMA Home Department has further informed in a press release that NSDMA will soon be carrying out similar trainings in all the districts in a phase wise manner. The CFR training is based on the understanding that the community is always the first to respond in times of disasters before external help arrives, hence the NSDMA envisions strengthening disaster management at the community levels by empowering them through CFR trainings.
