KOHIMA, MARCH 20 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued a weather advisory warning of widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, and potential flooding across the state in the coming days.
According to the latest forecast, Nagaland will experience light to moderate rainfall across most districts until March 25. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected to affect the districts of Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Kiphire, Kohima, Mon, Peren, Phek, and Tuensang. Meanwhile, districts such as Longleng, Mokokchung, Noklak, Shamator, Tseminyu, and Zunheboto will likely see moderate showers.
The NSDMA cautioned that heavy precipitation in hilly areas could increase the risk of waterlogging and flash floods in lowland and foothill regions. The affected areas include Dimapur, Niuland, Chümoukedima, Bhandari, Pangti, Tizit, and Tuli. The agency advised residents to take precautions against lightning strikes and strong winds, which could disrupt communication and connectivity.
The Home Department has urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary exposure to hazardous weather conditions. District Disaster Management Authorities and other relevant departments have been instructed to stay on high alert to ensure public safety and protect property.
