NSDMA issues weather alert for September 4-7
Kohima, September 3 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) on September 3 issued a weather outlook for all districts of the state from September 4 to 7, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning and varying intensity of rainfall, with heavy to moderate-heavy rain expected in several districts on September 7.
On September 4, thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by light to moderate rain are likely in Kiphire, Kohima, Meluri, Mon, Noklak, Phek, Shamator and Zunheboto, while Longleng, Niuland, Tseminyu, Tuensang and Wokha are expected to receive light to moderate rain.
Chumoukedima, Dimapur, Mokokchung and Peren are likely to receive light rain.
On September 5, thunderstorms and lightning with light to moderate rain are forecast in Kiphire, Longleng, Meluri, Mon, Noklak, Shamator, Tuensang and Zunheboto.
Kohima, Mokokchung and Phek are likely to experience thunderstorms and lightning with light rain, while Dimapur, Niuland and Peren face a risk of thunderstorms and lightning.
Chumoukedima is expected to remain overcast, while Tseminyu and Wokha are likely to receive light rain.
On September 6, thunderstorms and lightning with light to moderate rain are expected over most places in Kohima, Phek and Zunheboto.
Similar conditions are forecast in Kiphire, Meluri, Mokokchung, Mon, Noklak, Shamator, Tseminyu and Tuensang, while Dimapur, Longleng and Niuland are likely to receive thunderstorms and lightning with light rain.
Chumoukedima and Peren are expected to receive light rain, while Wokha may receive light to moderate rain.
The NSDMA has placed several districts on high alert for September 7, forecasting heavy to moderate-heavy rain in Dimapur, Kohima, Longleng, Meluri, Mokokchung, Mon, Niuland, Noklak, Phek, Tseminyu, Tuensang, Wokha and Zunheboto.
Chumoukedima, Kiphire, Peren and Shamator are expected to receive light to moderate rain on the day.
The five-day rainfall outlook indicates notable spatial variation, with the highest cumulative rainfall expected over Mon at 150.11 mm, followed by Tuensang (149.38 mm), Zunheboto (140.52 mm), Phek (136.29 mm), Noklak (131.93 mm), Tseminyu (131.62 mm) and Meluri (130.81 mm).
Shamator is expected to receive 125.72 mm and Kohima 119.92 mm during the period. The NSDMA advised the public to regularly monitor the latest weather updates through the Safer Nagaland mobile application and the NSDMA Weather Portal.
