NSDMA reports widespread damages across Nagaland due to extreme weather

Kohima, June 3 (MExN): From houses to fields, roads to bridges, the ongoing extreme monsoon weather occurrences have been causing widespread damages throughout the State, the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) updated today.

The damages included major land sinking in Kohima district near Naga Heritage Village, Kisama, followed by a total collapse of National Highway-2.

A major landslide was also reported between Kigwema and Mima to Chakhabama road, while a major retaining wall collapsed at Phesama village, the NSDMA said.

In Tuensang district, it informed that a landslide report was received at Phingjang Ward, Tuensang town, while road blockages on Tobu road below Tuensang village were also reported.

An Anganwadi centre was also damaged at Phir Ahir village under Longkhim sub-division, it added.

In Kiphire district, continuous rains have caused landslides and road blockades between Khongiri village to Mimi villages and Luther village.

Another landslide was reported between 2 Junction and Pungro Town. A landslide incident was also reported in Singrep village.
Damages to agricultural fields were also reported from Moya and Pungro villages, the NSDMA noted.

In Meluri district, a village guard office guard room was damaged by a landslide in Meluri, while reports were also received that paddy fields along the Araju River in Reguri Village were damaged due to the overflowing of the river, it said.

A retaining wall collapsed in Meluri’s Wutsi Colony, affecting a residential house.

In Noklak district, road blockade reports were received from Noklak to Chingmei to Tuensang road; Noklak to Pangsha road; Panso to Tuensang road and Panso via Kusong road; Noklak to Tsuwao village road; and Panso to Saddle to Tuensang road.

Several maize fields were also reportedly damaged by windstorm and torrential rains at Chassir Village under Shamator district, while a major landslide occurred between Shamator and Kiphire road.

In Mokokchung district, a retaining wall collapsed, causing damage to one residential house at Mongsenbai Ward.

A report was also received from Luyong Ward under Mangkolemba sub-division that a retaining wall collapsed, which also affected a nearby footpath and three residential houses, the Authority updated.

In Wokha district, several electric poles were uprooted due to a cyclonic windstorm, causing power supply interruption, while a landslide at Tribal Circuit Doyang affected the office reception and cafeteria building.

In Zunheboto district, a landslide incident was reported from Atoizu sub-division.

In Peren district, road blockages were reported between Vamsi Akilesh and New Ngaulong.

In view of such incidents, the NSDMA has urged all district disaster management authorities to be on alert to save lives and properties during the monsoon season.
