DIMAPUR, MARCH 23 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) today appealed to all the educational institutions including coaching institutions to strictly comply with the directive issued by the state government. The federation will be maintaining a strict watch over the matter and any institution putting the lives of the students in jeopardy due to non-compliance shall attract harsh penalty, it cautioned.

The NSF appealed to the students’ community and the public to exercise utmost restraint and adopt a responsible lifestyle in line with the various advisories issued by the authorities concerned.

“We appeal you to stay at home, stay safe and keep your loved and dear ones safe from the deadly Covid19,” it pleaded.

It meanwhile informed that the federation’s office would remain closed to the general public from March 24 to April 12.

However, the day-today functioning of the federation shall remain unaffected, informed a press release from the NSF president and general secretary.

In case of any grievances facing the students’ community and the general public, the following officials shall be available to assist them and provide necessary assistance during this critical period:

Dievi Yano, Vice President (Convenor, Public Grievances Redressal Cell) – 7005191201; and Kegwayhun Tep, Secretary Education (Co-Convenor, Public Grievances Redressal Cell) – 7005305832.

Condemns discrimination faced by Naga students

The federation meanwhile expressed concern that Naga students’ residing outside the state have been facing discriminations in various forms due to their physical appearances.

“It is at the very least disheartening to point out that the students had to be subjected to such humiliation besides the emotional trauma caused to them by Covid19 pandemic,” the NSF stated, and appealed to the Government of Nagaland to actively liaise with the central government and their counterparts in other states in order to ensure the physical and emotional well being of the Naga students living outside the state.

The federation further asked the government to provide all necessary assistance to the Naga students who have been arriving from other states and are stranded in various places due to the restrictions placed by the government on movement of public transports.

This, however, has to be done after proper screening for COVID-19 is carried out on them, it added.
