KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 26 (MExN): The Naga Students' Federation (NSF) has demanded the immediate termination of Professor Sarat Chandra Yenisetti from the Department of Zoology at Nagaland University, following a disturbing incident on November 25. The NSF, in a letter to the Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University, has condemned the professor’s actions, which involved verbal abuse and physical assault.
Citing reports, the NSF alleged that Professor Yenisetti verbally assaulted a group of postgraduate students using offensive language, and in a separate incident, physically assaulted a female Assistant Professor from the same department during official working hours. The federation called the professor’s behavior a "direct violation of institutional values" and an affront to both human dignity and professional standards.
The NSF further stated that this incident is not an isolated one, citing a history of unprofessional conduct by Professor Yenisetti, which includes intimidation, verbal abuse, and a disregard for the safety of students and faculty. This pattern of behavior has reportedly created a hostile and toxic atmosphere within the department, affecting the mental and physical well-being of individuals at the university, it added.
"The actions of Professor Yenisetti not only harm the individuals involved but also tarnish the reputation of Nagaland University, an institution meant to foster learning and progress," the NSF said in its letter. The federation emphasized that such actions erode the trust and confidence of students, faculty, and stakeholders in the university’s ability to maintain a safe and respectful academic environment.
In view of these grave concerns, the NSF has given the university administration three days to take immediate action by terminating Professor Yenisetti’s employment. Failure to do so, the federation warned that it will be compelled to take further measures. The federation called for a firm response to uphold justice, fairness, and the integrity of the institution.
Additionally, the NSF recommended that the university implement stricter policies and mechanisms to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future, ensuring a secure and respectful environment for all members of the academic community.
