Upon the arrival of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a swearing-in ceremony of the new government in Nagaland in Kohima today, the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) held peaceful demonstrations at Old MLA hostel junction, Phoolbari and NSF Martyrs’ Park.

“Nagas want inclusive, honourable and acceptable solution,” read a banner, one among the many that were displayed along the road. Some stated that the Indo- Naga conflict is an “international political conflict, not India’s ‘Internal law and order issue,’ while another called on the “Dear Prime Minister of India” to honour the Indo-Naga Framework Agreement of 2015.

“Occupation of the Naga homeland is illegal,” “Stop India’s duplicity- Immediately remove India’s occupational forces,” read other placards.

NSF General Secretary, Süpüni Ng Philo informed that the motive behind the peaceful demonstration was to demand seriousness from the central government and for them to show utmost sincerity in their approach towards ensuring that “an inclusive, honourable and acceptable solution to the protracted Indo-Naga Political issue is brought about at the earliest.”

Philo stated that the peaceful demonstration was also to remind the newly elected representatives of the people to be mindful of the aspirations of the Naga people and put in more serious efforts as facilitators and not use the genuine and legitimate Naga Political issue a mere political gambit.

The demonstration was also to openly tell the Naga negotiators that the Naga youths and student’ community are yearning for lasting peace across the Naga homeland and that the generations which will inherit the solution shall no longer tolerate the division within themselves, the NSF general secretary ,maintained.

The demonstrations were held with the active participation and support of the federating units and sub-ordinate bodies, he added.
