NSF pulls up NU Vice Chanchellor over backlog

Dimapur, June 21 (MExN): In spite of Nagaland University’s assurance that backlogged papers would be allowed to be pursued in third year, the NU Vice Chancellor has denied the same to students who approached him for redress of the backlogged papers. This has caught the attention of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF). The NSF has promptly criticized the action of the VC by terming it “another episode of NU inefficiency, maladministration, corruption and irregularities.”

A note from the Federation’s education secretary Ahito Achumi recalled that B.Sc second-year students of 2006-2007 were compelled to appear for five papers in five days without a gap. Taking note of the ‘improper time schedule’ the students resisted and raised their grievances to the concern authority about their inability to appear for the papers with the then prescribed schedule. The NU VC then intervened and assured the students that backlog papers would be allowed to be pursued in the third year. However, on declaration of the results, the students with backlog were denied the assurance by the VC.

Rather he asked them to apply for reevaluation “where he can allot grace marks and thereby settle the case,” the NSF stated. The NSF cautioned that it is monitoring the university and as such, the concern authority is urged to intervene. Otherwise any unwanted situation later on “should not be misconstrued or be held responsible” it warned.
