NSF readies agitation if cabinet order stands

KOHIMA, APRIL 26 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), in pursuance of the resolution adopted during its Presidential Council Meeting held on April 25, has issued a notification instructing all its federating units to mobilize volunteers in anticipation of launching a democratic agitation.

In a notification, the NSF stated that this decision follows the seven-day ultimatum served to the State Government on April 22, 2025, which is set to expire on April 28. In the event that the Government fails to revoke the Cabinet Order dated December 17, 2024 pertaining to the regularisation of 147 contractual Assistant Professors under the Department of Higher Education, the Federation will proceed with the first phase of its agitation.

As such, all federating units have been directed to assemble at 9 AM on April 29 at NSF Oking, Naga Solidarity Park, Kohima. The Federation reiterated its opposition to what it termed an “arbitrary and unjustified” Cabinet decision, stating that the move undermines the principles of meritocracy and transparency in public recruitment, and adversely impacts deserving aspirants across the state.

Calling for unity and discipline, the NSF has urged volunteers to participate in traditional attire as a symbol of cultural solidarity and collective resolve. It emphasized that the democratic protest will be carried out under the strict guidance of the NSF leadership.

Further information and directives will be disseminated by the Federation in due course. The NSF stated that the notification has been issued in the interest of protecting the rights of the student community and upholding merit-based governance in Nagaland.
