Dimapur, June 6 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Federation and the Western Sumi Totimi Hoho have expressed strong condemnation of the June 5 rape of a minor reportedly by the vice-chairman of the Satakha Town Council and working president of Satakha assembly constituency’s NPF.
Calling the “hideous act” of rape “an uncultured incident”, the NSF expressed exasperation at “the fact that rape and molestation cases has escalated to an extreme rate” in Nagaland, “in spitefulness that Naga society has, at all times intimidating to such atrocious crime which has never been a component of our culture and creed”. The federation, in a note appended by its vice-president and assistant general secretary, urged all civil and governmental organisations to condemn the act and to further advocate adoption of “measures to exterminate such transgressions”.
Also, the WSTH in a note of condemnation received here said ‘If a responsible man like Kakiho Zhimomi commits such a heinous crime instead of safeguarding the people, for which he is meant, where can people like us be safe.’ The organisation called upon the authorities, police and the lawyers to be more vigilant and “take the case seriously and book the culprit according to the law of the land”.
The hoho further cautioned that “we mothers will not tolerate” the culprit being “blindly” let out on bail. Such an action would compel the womenfolk to take action on their own, it warned. “There should be no bar in crime like this, whether he is a respectable man or not, and should be punished according to his crime,” the WSTH stated
