Chümoukedima/Dimapur, March 2 (MExN): Barak FC continues to dominate the Nagaland Super League (NSL) standings, remaining at the top with 19 points from seven matches after Match Day 10.
With an impressive record of six wins and one draw, Barak FC remains unbeaten and holds a comfortable goal difference of +12.
Despite having played one match fewer than their closest competitors, Nagaland United Sporting Club (SC), who are on 16 points, Barak FC’s position at the summit seems solid.
Their latest triumph came with a crucial 1-0 victory over Nagaland United SC when the league resumed on February 26 after a short break.
Barak FC’s upcoming 8th match will see them face Sechu Zubza FC on March 5.
Meanwhile, in the last fixture of Match Day 10 on March 1, Nagaland United SC bolstered their position with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Sechu Zubza FC at the Chümoukedima Football Stadium.
Nisede Peseyie emerged as the hero for Nagaland United SC, scoring a crucial brace (45’+5, 84’) to secure the win.
Nagaland United SC boasts a stronger scoring record than Barak FC, with 20 goals for (GF) compared to the latter’s 18. However, two defeats have hampered their climb to the top so far.
Despite a spirited response from Sechu Zubza’s Pynba, who found the net in the 58th minute, it wasn’t enough to turn the tide in their favour.
Peseyie was awarded the Nivia Player of the Match for his match-winning performance.
Longterok FC remains a serious contender for a playoff spot, sitting third with 13 points from eight matches. Their solid defensive record and a goal difference of +4 keep them firmly in the running.
At the other end of the table, Frontier Warriors FC find themselves in a tough spot, rooted to the bottom with just four points from eight games.
