Kohima, September 24 (MExN): With an aim to spread legal awareness and assistance at the doorstep of the rural population, Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) organized its second door-to-door campaign with the theme ‘Reach out, someone over there needs you’ on September 23. It was carried out by the 11 District Legal Services Authorities in their respective districts.
In around 296 villages, 42,394 households and 1,49,981 beneficiaries were covered during the door-to-door campaign, stated a press release from NSLSA.
Panel Lawyers, Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) and volunteers from targeted villages carried the message of access to justice, legal rights and entitlements, speedy and affordable justice and distributed legal literacy literature translated in local dialects.
Altogether, 60 types of acts and provisions were translated in Tenyidie, Lotha, Sema, Ao, Yimchungru, Sangtam, Khiamniungan, Zeme, Rengma, Phom, Chang, Kuki and Konyak were distributed and explained during the state wide campaign.
Releasing the translated legal literatures in Tuensang, SDPO Tuensang, Bharat Laxman, IPS, lauded the District Legal Services Authorities for the various activities and for providing an example to other departments to perform their roles and responsibilities, the release said. He stated that legal services authorities are strengthening and deepening the democracy in the country.
The SDPO further encouraged the Panel Lawyers and Para Legal Volunteers to empower the citizens while reminding that real power lies in the villages.
Meanwhile, SDO (C) Peren, Kezo, Deputy Commissioner of Mon, W. Honje Konyak and District and Sessions Judge and Chairman KDLSA, Mayang Lima released the translated legal literature in Peren, Mon and Kiphire respectively.
