NSRLM holds 3rd annual review meeting

Kohima, May 11 (MExN): The Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM) held its 3rd annual review meeting on May 10 and 11. Staff from the state, district and block mission management units across the nine NSRLM districts attended the two day meeting to review progress and updates of FY 2015-’16 and strategies for the coming year.  

K. Shekiho Phuleshe, Additional Mission Director, NSRLM in the keynote address highlighted the achievements of the State Mission during the past year. He updated that the Mission has so far formed 1715 Self Help Groups (SHGs). Entering into its 3rd year of implementation, the SHGs and Village Level Organizations (VLOs) across the nine resource blocks have so far been provided community support fund amounting to Rs. 6,87,30,000 and SHGs have also been credit linked to a tune of Rs. 1,44,50,000.  

While lauding the efforts of the Mission team, the Additional Mission Director emphasized on the need to acknowledge shortcomings, reexamine performances and address gaps that have arisen in the past year. He stressed that the most important thing is to see whether target groups have really benefited or not.  

On day one, presentations on year’s progress and achievements, MIS reports, trainings and strategies for Year 2016-’17 were given by all districts. The presentations showed that in its three years of programme implementation, the Mission has made tremendous progress in terms of community mobilization, institution building and strengthening efforts; and capacity building of community cadres such as community resource persons, village facilitators and bookkeepers and developing cutting edge staff as trainers and facilitators through numerous capacity building exercises. Some of the issues highlighted were poor connectivity and communication problems and lack of banks in some areas which is posing problems in terms of bank and credit linkage.  

On day two, Motsuthung Lotha, outgoing Mission Director Motsuthung Lotha, Secretary, affirmed the State Mission is mature enough and has to be responsive in addressing issues. He reminded that poverty eradication is the toughest job and now that the Mission has taken up the challenge, everyone must work with missionary zeal. He advised the participants to rededicate, encourage each other and work in humility to take the Mission forward.  

Presentations on scale up strategy to new Intensive Blocks was given by Rollan Lotha, COO (Programs) and presentation on Livelihoods Strategy in Resource Blocks was given by Menuoneituo Chadi, COO (Livelihoods & Skills), NSRLM.
