NSRLM Longmatra SHG members playing key role to contain COVID-19

Kiphire, May 1 (MExN): The women SHG members under NSRLM, Longmatra Block Kiphire District have been playing key role in the State Government’s effort to contain COVID-19. 


Atsope Sangtam, BPM, NSRLM BMMU Longmatra in a press release stated that starting from second week of March 2020 the SHG members were assigned the responsibilities of creating awareness on COVID-19 at the community level. They took responsibilities to circulate IEC materials on how to combat coronavirus along with NSRLM Staff under the block. The rural people were made understand in simple language the dos and don’ts, the importance of social distancing and the importance of staying home to break the transmission chain and to defeat coronavirus. The SHG members also take initiative in making masks and distributed it to the community free of cost. 


Due to outbreak of pandemic many poor and needy were effected amid lockdown as such the women Village Organizations also provides relief materials like rice, potatoes etc to the needy and daily wage earners in the block. 


The RD Department involving NSRLM through the coordination with the District Administration has also procured various locally produced vegetables from SHGs under Kiphire and Longmatra Block and was sold in shift bazaar, which was temporarily arranged by the District Administration Kiphire, on alternate days. The products were brought by the department from the spot and were sold voluntarily by the NSRLM Staff Kiphire in the market. 


On May 1, the NSRLM staff showed gratitude by distributing green vegetables free of cost to all the frontline workers assigned on duty to fight COVID-19. The packages were arranged by the SHGs especially for frontline workers to show their solidarity and it was done as per the advice of the SHGs.
