NSRLM & SBI join hands to uplift economy of rural poor

Dimapur, September 27 (MExN): With the objective of creating awareness and building capacities of Nagaland and Bank functionaries on the banking system and procedures and so as to ensure effective banking linkage of SHGs, the lead bank in the State having maximum branches in interior part of the State today came to an understanding with the Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM) to work hand in hand to uplift the economy of the rural poor by providing bank linkage to women SHGs in the State.

A press release received here stated that Imtimenla, Mission Director NSRLM, shared her happiness upon the SBI for showing improvement in providing CL to NSRLM SHGs during the last six months. She also disclosed that there are seven thousand women Self Help Group (SHG) savings bank account in SBI, besides Village Level Organization (VLO) and Cluster Level Federation (CLF) SB accounts respectively.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Imtimenla, Mission Director NSRLM and Haokholen Hangsing, Regional Manager of SBI RBO Dimapur at MD’s chamber at Kohima.

Highlights of the contents were that the NSRLM agreed to share list of eligible SHGs for Credit linkage, position Bank Sakhi in bank branch in SBI branches, activated CBRM monthly meeting, review meeting conduct at DMMU at regular intervals, organize training program for NSRLM and Bank staff etc.

The Bank assured to conduct FL program in collaboration with NSRLM, sanction of loan within 15 days, not block balances in SB account whose loan account is standard and encourage withdrawal for internal lending of the same to improve Group dynamics, disburse entire amount sanctioned without insisting on deposit of the part of the loan amount in fixed deposit, shall share details of all accounts and transactions of individual SHG under NRLM with NSRLM, ensure that each Branch shall furnish progress report of the BMMU on a monthly basis, furnish the details of credit disbursement and credit outstanding of the SHGs etc.

The Bank also assured to appoint trained and certified SHG members as Customer Service Point (CSP) in inoperative locations.
Others attended the function were M Rollan Lotha, Chief Operating Officer (Programs) and Rajuselie Lhousa, State Program Manager-Financial Inclusion (SPMFI), NSRLM, and Thony Pao, AGM SBI RBO-I Dimapur.
