NSSU organises seminar on career guidance

Dimapur, April 17 (MExN): The Northern Sumi Students’ Union (NSSU) organised a one-day seminar on Career Guidance under the theme ‘Gearing up for brighter and better future’ at Tourist Lodge Conference Hall, Dimapur on April 14.

According to a press release received, the NSSU invited three resource persons from various professions and backgrounds to inculcate, educate and guide the students for their future.

Basing her session on her life experiences, Bokali Kughalu Chishi lamented that unemployment has become a trend in the present context of Naga society. She said that rampant backdoor appointments have encouraged lazy students while limited job avenues in the Government sector has caused unemployment to skyrocket with each passing year, thereby creating negative impact among candidates who are pursuing competitive exams. Towards this, she encouraged the students not to seek backdoor appointment and instead, motivated them to seek quality education and compete with the rest of the world with the knowledge and wisdom they have acquired.

Chishi also advised the gathering not to abuse modern technology gadgets but to focus on their dreams for a better future. Taking few examples such as inequality of labor wages between male and female in the Naga society, she viewed that such mentalities should be done away with as ‘gender bias is no more suitable in this contemporary 21st century.’ Stating that women empowerment should continue to spread, she challenged the women participants to speak up for the rights wherever necessary without any hesitation.

As per the release, Tongpang Matsung, consultant, NCD, Development of Health & Family Welfare, gave a presentation on pursuing medical studies, and shared valuable inputs on the topic. The students and resources persons held valuable interactions and discussions during the session wherein Matsung categorically classified different courses for medical profession and advised the students to make choices according to their areas of interest.

Meanwhile, Steve Chophy, founder and consultant at Nagaland Education Consultancy (NEC) gave the students an overview of his experiences over the past years. He appreciated the NSSU for organising the event stating that it is the vital role of the student community to guide and show the right path. He opined that there are lots of courses to pursue and suggested the students to not only depend on others but through their own qualifications and skills, can contribute to the society and earn for self sustenance.
