NSSWB & SRCW- Nagaland conduct prog on Sexual Harassment at workplace Act

Kohima, May 4 (MExN): A programme on the Introduction of Internal Complaints Committee of Sexual Harassment at Workplace and Financial Literacy on the National Pension System was held by the Nagaland State Social Welfare Board (NSSWB) in collaboration with the State Resource Centre for Women (SRCW- Nagaland) on May 3.

The event was chaired by the chairperson of the NSSWB, and had in attendance the Secretary, NSSWB, along with all the staff members under the Board. The Chairperson gave a talk on the vision of the NSSWB 2017-18 and urged the staff to continue their work with renewed vigour.   This was followed by a brief overview on the Sexual Harassment at Workplace (Prevention. Prohibition and Redressal) Act 2013.

The Act mandates the setting up of an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) in every workplace with more than 10 employees, for a tenure of not more than 3 years. The Secretary, NSSWB, introduced the members of the newly formed ICC to the staff: Bano Vinito, Chairperson of the NSSWB as the Presiding Officer, Daisy Mezhur, Secretary & Mission Director of SRCW, Gracy Ayee, State Coordinator, SRCW and Lanurenla Imchen, Helpline Manager, 181 as the internal members, and Mezi Sorhe, Executive Director of EDITI as the external member.

A session was also conducted on the salient features of the National Pension System applicable to the staff of NSSWB. The National Pension System provides a mechanism in which individuals can make regular contributions to a designated account set up for this purpose, the amount from which would then be used for disbursing monthly pensions to them after the age of 60.

A short video on the importance of mindset was screened. The event concluded with the State Coordinator of the State Resource Centre for Women conducting a general discussion on the activities of the various branches of the Board.
