Dimapur: The Nagaland State Transport department held a monthly Review Meeting today which was attended by all officers from outposts. This was relayed by Pekrusetuo Angami, General Manager of NST, Dimapur, Nagaland. Achum Ngullie, Secretary, Transport and Communication department addressed the meeting. The monthly review meeting focused mainly on revenue achievement and overall performance of the Department on a routine basis. Important issues for improvement of the department were also discussed.

The Secretary, while deliberating on the urgent relevant issues asked for the Action Taken Reports on implementation of the Government instructions and directives particularly on providing reliable and safe services with a touch of cleanliness and hygienic buses to gain public appreciation and also to attract more passengers. He made an emphasis on safety of the passengers, which should not be compromised at any cost. Ngullie further advocated the setting up of a board comprising of medical officers at the district level for subjecting the drivers to medical and physical tests besides determining alcohol or intoxicating substance abuse. The station officers have been made to furnish lists or names of drivers identified as alcoholics or intoxicant abusers in order to take drastic action against them. Use of breath analyzer or alcohol detector at different locations proved to have a positive effect in controlling the drivers from taking alcohol. The concerned officers are certifying to the effect that the vehicles are fit and that the crews are physically and mentally fit to perform the duty of the scheduled service. This will ensure reliability of the services while personal supervision of the concerned officers is involved thereby discouraging malpractices in revenue collection.

Ngullie also said that further orientation and refresher training courses for drivers have to be conducted more frequently alongside organizing prayer fellowship amongst the NST staff to bring about changes and reformation.

“The station officers are also asked to be more sincere and ensure their regular stay in their respective head quarters.
“Any officers not present will be pulled up,” he added.
