Dimapur: While endorsing its support to the Economic Blockade called by the All Naga Students Association of Manipur, the Naga Students’ Union, Delhi has reacted strongly against the Central and Manipur governments for their ‘inaction and indifferent attitude towards the situation even after 50 days of the non-cooperation movement had elapsed.’
The union has further stated that the situation had taken an ugly turn, considering the highly charged up and tense environment prevailing in the State.
A press release issued by the NSUD stated that the Manipur and the Union Governments’ failure to revoke the declaration had made the situation in the State uncontrollable and volatile as the Meiteis had started committing direct violence against Naga civilians in different parts of the state.
The union has also strongly condemned the ‘barbaric’ act where a Naga woman was reportedly beaten mercilessly by some Meitei youth at a vegetable market in Langathel, a Meitei dominated sub-division under Thoubal District; Heirok Constituency in Manipur State simply for virtue of being a Naga,.
The release further stated that acts of violence were being systematically targeted by the Meiteis. It is reported that assaulted Naga victims were being blamed for causing hardship to the Manipuri people by supporting the Economic blockade called by Naga organizations, the release added. Sources said these incidents of hate-attacks could not be reported due to lack of communication linkage and remoteness of the places where they are occurring.
The union has also condemned the orchestrated tyranny of the security forces with regard to the beating up of 24 Naga women, which included 4 pregnant women in the aftermath of the peaceful protest launched on 8th July in Senapati District against the shooting of a Naga man and critically injuring many peaceful protestors.
The Naga Students’ Union, Delhi (NSUD) and the Nagas living in Delhi, have, as such, unequivocally condemned the assaults on a Naga Woman by the Meitei youth in strongest terms and have reiterated their stand in support of the civil non-co-operation movement launched for Integration of all Naga areas in the Naga areas by the Naga Hoho, NSF, ANSAM, Naga Mother Association, NPMHR, etc.
They have also called upon the democratic peoples in South Asia and the World to look into the problem in earnestness so as to save the Naga people and the tribals from the attack of the majority communities in the Northeast.
