
Reiterates stand against tribe recognition
Dimapur, June 22 (MExN): The Co-ordination meeting of the Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) held at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur unanimously adopted a constitution today. This was informed in a press note received from NTC Secretary, Theja Therieh and Convenor, P Pius Lotha. The NTC reiterated that the Nagaland State should revoke its notification that had recognised the Rongmei Naga tribe, as well as the notification constituting a committee to study and recommend on the applications for recognition of tribes in the Sate of Nagaland. The meeting resolved to “urge the State Government to come clear on the issue with its action taken and intimate the NTC for clarity on record”. The NTC has additionally resolved to extend “unwavering support and solidarity” to the Action Committee Against Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) in their campaign. It also extends “its solidarity” while “sharing grievances” of the Rengma Nagas in Karbi Anlong. The Council urged the State Government of Nagaland to take up the issue in all seriousness with the Assam Government for an “amicable solution creating conducive atmosphere for the citizens of the neighbouring states for peaceful co-existence”. The NTC appealed to the Karbi People’s Liberation Tigers (KPLT) to withdraw their ultimatum served to the Rengmas and “give peace and harmony a chance”.
