NTC urges government to ramp up efforts to tackle pandemic

Kohima, July 29 (MExN): In view of the surging COVID-19 cases in the state, the Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) has appealed to all citizens to respect the laid down standard operating procedures, stating that it is the responsibility of every individual to fight the pandemic in their own capacities.

In a press release on July 29, the NTC also pointed out that the “the State is responsible for the health care of its citizens,” and as such, urged the State Government to ramp up its efforts in ensuring and strengthening the already existing safety measures of all the frontline workers, health service providers, Administrative machinery and Police and Armed Forces connected to COVID-19 pandemic duties.

“The safety of all frontline workers is a critical, paramount priority element and should not be compromised nor neglected under any circumstances in this fight against COVID-19,” it said.

With the rising number of COVID-19 cases from among the general public, it further stated that the government now has to “immediately revise/rethink its approach and policies of its SOPs and efforts in existence towards mitigating and containing the spread and total outbreak of COVID-19 in Nagaland.”

Detection of COVID-19 cases from among the general public simply points out to the paradigm shift in the nature of the spread of COVID-19 in Nagaland from government regulated environment/ quarantine facilities to the general population and as such the SOPs and policies of earlier stages alone now are not adequately effective, the release stated.

The NTC therefore, urged the government to commit more resources and efforts into conducting test of the general public to critically assess the nature of the spread of COVID-19 and act accordingly.
